Malcolm, Luisa & Rosie's story

This year RICE had a record number of 23 runners all geared up for the Bath Half Marathon 2018. Unfortunately the snowy conditions meant this year’s race had to be cancelled.

Despite this setback we still received an incredible amount of support through sponsorship. We really are so grateful to everyone who sponsored our runners and of course to our amazing team of runners, many of whom took on alternative challenges.

Malcolm contacted RICE last year to express his interest in running the Bath Half Marathon with his two sisters, Luisa and Rosie.

All three were passionate about raising vital funds for dementia research, care and support and they set an ambitious target of raising £1000 between them.

As a store manager at Starbucks Malcolm placed collection tins in 10 Starbucks stores around Bath and Bristol. He and his sisters also set up an online sponsorship page encouraging family and friends to donate.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Malcolm, Luisa and Rosie. Despite the Bath Half being cancelled they came up with alternatives and smashed their initial sponsorship target with more donations coming in after race day, altogether raising an incredible £1,496.25!

Here is a message from Malcolm:

“Sadly, the Bath Half Marathon was cancelled because of the snow storm. However, that didn't stop us from running. At 9am, myself, Luisa and Rosie all stood at our starting lines...

"I started an adjusted Bath Half Marathon route, Rosie, living in Bristol, got ready to run from Bristol to Bath and Luisa got herself ready to run around Cardiff.

"With £1,200 in sponsorship, we didn't want to let anyone down and were determined to run what ever the weather.

"Thank you to everyone who donated it means the world to us, as our father has recently been diagnosed with dementia, this has been a charity very close to our hearts.”
