Prof Julian Hughes: An Update

On 18th March 2017 RICE Professor of Old Age Psychiatry Julian Hughes attended a two day conference on ageing at the University of Tubingen, Germany which was organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Prof Hughes spoke on the subject of 'Dementia and ethical issues'.

The meeting was the first meeting by the WHO aimed at developing an ethical framework in relation to ageing and health. The framework is intended to complement the World Report on Ageing and Health produced by the WHO in 2015, to which Prof Hughes contributed a background paper on ethics.

Prof Hughes also acted as External PhD Examiner for the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Lisbon, Portugal, on 13th March 2017. The PhD thesis, by Sara Coelho, combined philosophy and psychology and was entitled – Lost in Time: A Neurophilosophical Quest to Understand the Perception of Time in MCI Patients.
